Sweetest Cherries Treat Bags

by Bonnie Hershfeldt, August 01, 2022

 Happy Monday my stamping friends!

Is today really August 1st?  Holy Moly!  What happened to July?  My 45th High School Reunion is approaching quickly - this coming Friday and Saturday.  I've been diligently working on the posting the last registrations/payments, making name tags and banners for our check in tables for both events, a special video for our dearly departed friends, the silent auction quilt (which turned out awesome), and some sweet cards to display for a card class donated to the Silent Auction.  I've got my supplies gathered and packing them in boxes, so I am prepared before the big day comes!  I'm hoping that when this is over, I'll finally have a little free time on my hands again - a big hope!

Today, I worked on 4 sweet cards for my upcoming 45th reunion's silent auction using the Sweetest Cherries Bundle.  I have wanted to play with this lively stamp set before the summer rolled along!

I'll be gifting a card making class for 4 people and my friend, Karen, will be complementing the event with cocktails and appetizers!  I'm hopeful that we get a good return on our investment - lol!  The proceeds from the Silent Auction help to fund the startup costs for our next reunion which will be in 5 years.  I had to make some pink cherry cards - well because!

If you would like to make your own 4 cheery cards, I'll have the tutorial posted on this site for $5 (payable by Pay Pal) later this week.  During the month of August, not only will you get a Sale-A-Bration item for free with your $50 purchase, but I will send you the tutorial for free!  When you place your order of $50 or more, please use the August host code of C3KJ9HQZ.  This will notify me to send you the Sweetest Cherries Bundle Tutorial to you!

Last week, I used the Sweetest Cherries Photopolymer Stamp Set and Cherry Builder Punch to decorate 21 Peakaboo Treat Bags filled with soft cherry sour candy.  Twenty of these adorable treat bags went to my crafting friend Carrie who is hosting her neighborhood's National Night out tomorrow night, August 2.  She has done a fantastic job in gathering all sorts of wonderful giveaways and lined up fun activities for her neighbors and their families!  They are lucky to have Carrie in their neighborhood.

I got the idea for these treat bags from page 19 of the 2022 - 2023 Annual Catalog.  I changed it a bit by using my Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Classic Pad for the basket weave image from the stamp set.  I was going for vibrant?

How did I keep the cellophane portion clean of ink?  I masked that part of the bag by cutting some Stampin' Up' Masking Paper at 1 3/8" by 4".  I removed the adhesive backing and placed over the cellophane and stamped away.  Once I finished stamping multiple images on the top and bottom of the cellophane opening, I carefully removed the masking paper and used for another bag.

The Sweetest Cherries Photopolymer stamp set is a Distinktive stamp set.

What is a Distinktive stamp set?  Distinktive stamps are only available from Stampin' Up.  They provide photo-realistic style images and have a special texture that gives added depth and dimension in a single step. They’re available in red rubber and photopolymer; look for the Distinktive icon in the Stampin' Up! catalogs.

I used my Stamparatus to stamp the two cherry images and the "Sweet" Sentiment twice as I wanted a more solid image rather than the Disinktive look for this project and I had a lot to stamp - 42 cherries and 21 sentiments for 21 bags!  I stamped half my cherry pairs with Merry Merlot and the other half with Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin' Pads.  I wanted some of the bags with a darker cherry color for riper Bing Cherries and some of the bags with a lighter less ripe colored Bing Cherry.

I used Soft Suede Stampin' Classic Pad for my cherry stems and then found out that cherry stems are actually green when I went to snack on some Bing cherries later in the day - lol!  I used Garden Green Classic Stampin' Pad for my cherry's leaves.  The punch made quick business of cutting out 42 cherries, stems and leaves!

I cut out my tags using the Essential Tag Punch and elongated the tag 3 1/4".  How did I do this?  I cut up 21 pieces of Basic White 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock into scant 1 5/8" x 3 3/8" pieces.  I then inserted one end of the tag from the backside of the opened punch underneath the decorative top and left the remaining tag out of the punch.  Punched it and voila only the top of the tag is cut.  I then punched a hole into the center of the tag top for lacing the White Twine through using my Label Me Fancy Punch.

After I filled the bag with chewy sour cherry candies found on Amazon, I wrapped the bag with white twine from the Baker's Twine Essentials Pack and threaded through my finished tag and tide a bow.  I always need an extra finger to tighten my knot before I tie my bow and now that we have a fantastic tweezer in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit - tying tightly wrapped bows is a breeze!

This tool kit has a tray to catch your embossing powder, a brush to get rid of those pesky stray embossing powder bits and yes - an Embossing Buddy - they are back!  This is a wonderful tool kit for the new crafter that hasn't accumulated much in embossing products.  But even the seasoned embossing crafter can use another set of tools.  I'm always misplacing my tools so I never have too many - lol!

I then added a small decorative bow made from Real Red ribbon from the Real Red & Garden Green 3/8" Ribbon Combo Pack and adhered it to the finished tag with a Mini Glue Dot.  Lastly, I adhered the tag so it wouldn't flop around by placing a Stampin' Dimensional on the back of the tag!

We are halfway through Sale-A-Bration!  I checked for inventory today as I was unable to fulfill an order for a customer for the Rings of Love 12" x 12" DSP.  Oddly, it was available this morning, however, the Trees for Sale Dies are no longer available.  This was one product I thought would go fast as the camper is so adorable!
