2nd installment of the new Crafting Studio

by Bonnie Hershfeldt, June 23, 2021

Happy Wednesday!  Hump day!  I hope you had a fantastic Father's day on Sunday.  My oldest son took his Dad and I out for pizza!  It's such a treat to be able to spend an afternoon catching up!  What did you do for Father's day - BBQ, fishing - things that Dad likes to do!  Two more days until the weekend and my 1st Monthly Get Together for Stampin' Up! kits; 3 days until the Frederick in Flight a hot air balloon festival in my little town; 5 days until my little one comes home from NYC - eeeee!  I can't stand it!  19 months - I can't wait to hug the dickens out of that young'un.

Another scorcher this last weekend.  I spent time in the studio on Saturday working on my next card class, Ice Cream Corner.   Something about this happy designer series paper makes me so happy when I create with it.  Sadly, the DSP, the Ice Cream Sprinkles and the Blackberry Bliss Striped Ribbon are all retiring on 6/30!  I'll share a fun card I made with this fun suite later on.

This week I wanted to share another "installment" of my new studio.  This week it's all about the closet.   Hubby removed the closet doors so I have a little more space to back up when sitting at my desk for one!  I was so glad for that extra little room so I didn't feel so cramped and banging into the door with my "BIG" chair - lol.  The best thing about the closet is he put a Kallax shelf unit with 12 squares.  I absolutely love the ability to organize all my Stampin' Up! Cardstock, Designer Series Paper, Classic Stampin' Pad, Stampin' Up! Punches.  He put together coordinating 2 drawer cubes into two of the cubes which gave me some extra storage!  As I said last week - You can never have enough storage - right?!

It always amazes me how quickly one can fill an empty unit!  lol!  The storage cube on the top right is all of my scraps.  I've created a gallon size baggy and labeled it the Stampin' Up! cardstock name and then organized by Stampin' Up! Color Collection.  More about that in the next paragraph!  I had a couple of shelves left on the bottom row. On the lower left corner is my 6" x 6" DSP.  I've seen some 6" organizational units for the Kallax - just not sure I'm quite there yet.  On the lower right hand corner is my box of Cash and Carry products to purchase for those attending an event/class and they need some adhesives, bone folders, etc.  Oh gosh and the mess on the floor - that is my travel bags for my events/workshops/classes.  I wished that I could have gotten the larger kallax unit in order to get a few more things off the floor, but we had a difficult enough time getting this one into the closet as it was!

I repurposed my Totally Tiffany Paper Storage boxes.  I set them on the long side down towards the cabinet - this way I can slide the paper out easily.  I copied a tip from Jennifer McGuire on storing cards stock in clear work ticket holders.  I cut them down to 11 3/4" and then I placed a label of the color of cardstock on both sides of the folder.  I just love this option and it's in expensive!  I have organized my cardstock a couple of different ways.  Before I moved into my new studio, I organized by rainbow color:  ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet).  I now have organized by the Stampin' Up Catalog:  Brights, Neutrals, Regals, Subtles, In Color Collections.  This really works for me as when I want something bright - the colors in the Bright collection go so well together and makes life so easy!  I use the same system for my Designer Series Paper.  I organize these by catalog, i.e, 2021 January - July, 2021 - 2022 Annual Catalog, etc.

Have you heard of StampnStorage?  I love these custom made craft organization solutions.  There are so many awesome options for your craft supplies.  I splurged a couple of years back and ordered these two units especially made for my Classic Stampin' Pads - perfect fit!  Click here to check out their products.  The units I purchased are made especially for the Kallax unit.  I do organize these by alphabetical order as it's easiest for me to find exactly the stamp pad that I am looking for.

This is another storage solution from StampnStorage made especially for my Stampin' Up! Punches.  The cool thing about these is that they come wide in the middle column for those larger punches.  And they come with wood block inserts to place in the slot for smaller punches so they don't get lost in the slot!  How clever!  This is one area that I don't have any idea on how to organize my punches.  I love that they have pictures on the front so I grab what I'm looking for.  I tried to organize alphabetically, then how they are listed in the catalog - but to tell you the truth - I use them and then just place them back in any open slot - lol!  Giving my self permission to be unorganized sometimes feels good - lol!

Here is a look at what's in one of the 2 drawer units that is in two of my Kallax squares.  I put all of my current catalog embellishments in the drawer directly behind my chair.  This seems to be working great as I can swivel to get what I need for the finishing touch on my card that I am designing.  Stampin' Up! no longer sells this fabulous clear cases sadly.  I find that they work perfect for storing all my bling - especially those that I have a tendency to stock up on my favorites like Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels, and Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Next week, for my last installment, I'll share what I have in the drawers and how I keep some type of order - lol to my various tools.  I hope this has been helpful and provides you some ideas on what might be helpful to you for a solution that you have been looking for organizing.

Reminder that The Adventure Begins, July's Paper Pumpkin kit is available for order until July 10. Summer brings graduations, weddings and other opportunities to take the next big adventure that life has to offer.  This may be just the right kit for you to make some wonderful inspiring cards about life's next big adventure for someone in your life!

The kit comes with enough supplies to create twelve cards with coordinating envelopes.  Including in the kit is a Stampin' Spot and an exclusive stamp set, inspirational sentiments and adventure-themed imagery.  Nature inspired colors include:  Basic Black, Basic White, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, Flirty Flamingo, Garden Green, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody and Night of Navy.

Here is a fun card that I made from the Sweet Ice Cream Bundle.  A light bulb went on while my mouth was watering from some ice cream.  I like popsicles, but I absolutely love Fudgsicles!  So why not make one.  Then I got to thinking about those darn tasty dipped cones at Dairy Queen and what came out was a chocolate coated popsicle! I used Early Espresso Cardstock and stamped the top of the popsicle and fussy cut that and placed on top of a popsicle that I had in my stash of popsicles I had made extras of.  Good enough to eat - right?  What do you think?  I'll be posting a tutorial for purchase on this one in the next couple of weeks.

I'm looking forward to spending time in my studio this weekend working on some fun Kid's Birthday cards.  I've got some ideas swirling around in my head for a fun interactive card.  Come back next week to see what I came up with!

Have a great weekend!  Enjoy mid summer!  and

KEEP ON CRAFTING!
