Hello my crafting friends!  Friday was a rough day saying goodbye to my cousin, Mike.  It was sad, however, it was good to spend time with my cousins, Aunt,  Mike's son and wife and share our memories of him.  We were blessed to meet the young man who tried to save his life.  My heart goes out to all of them. It definitely has prompted my husband and I to work harder at reaching out and plan an event to see them all soon.

On Friday morning, I woke early and headed to the crafting room to make special cards for my Aunt, Uncle, Mike's son and wife.  I spent some time on Thursday night searching Sympathy cards on Pinterest as this appears to be a difficult genre of card to design.  I found some lovely designs to case and turn into my own.  The artists that I cased are Jody Lynn, Wendy Lee, Suzie McFloozy and Paige Holt.  Thank you for their inspiration in making this less difficult.  I am going to apologize for the photography - I was in a rush to get out the door on Friday so had to take my photos quickly!

This was my favorite one.  I tore the edges of 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Vellum Cardstock, then stamped the floating dandelion from the Dandelion Wishes Stamp Set with a Versamark Pad.  I embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder and the Heat Tool.  I adhered all four corners of the vellum to Basic Gray Cardstock with Mini Glue Dots.  I covered each of the four corners where the glue dot might show through with 4 Rhinestone Basic Jewels colored with Dark Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends.  I adhered a Gray Granite 1/4" Shimmer Ribbon onto the card design towards the lower portion of the card wrapping the ends of the ribbon and adhere to the back side.  I stamped a scrap of Smoky Slate with "With Sympathy" in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink from the Touched My Heart stamp set.  This is a hostess stamp set.  If you are interested in this stamp set, reach out to me via email or comment below.  I would love to let you know how you can get this set.  I cut it out with the smaller label from the Hippo & Friends Die Set and adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.  I adhered the design to a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" Shimmery White card front.  I stamped the inside card sentiment using the "Thinking of you with all my heart" from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.

Here are two more that I made - similar concept by using Vellum overlay on the front.

The first one I cut a 5 1/2" x 4" piece of the Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper.  I adhered a 5 1/2" x 4" piece of Vellum cardstock with Mini Glue Dots like the previous card.   I chose the purple background iced floral design.  I colored the Rhinestone Basic Jewels with Dark Highland Heather Stampin' Blends.  I wrapped a piece of 5/8" Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon around.  I stamped the sentiment right on top of a piece of the vellum.  You may need to blot it as it stayed wet for a very long time!  This was adhered to a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" Shimmer White card front.

This second one I stamped the cluster of bare trees from the Winter Woods Stamp Set with Tuxedo Black Memento Pad on a 4 3/4" 3 1/2" Shimmery White Cardstock.  I cut the Vellum Cardstock the same - 4 3/4" x 3 1/2".  I colored the Rhinestone Basic Jewels with Light Basic Black Stampin' Blends.  I cut Basic Black Cardstock at 5 1/4" x 4 3/4".

The last card I stamped the tree from the Life is Beautiful Stamp Set onto 5" x 3 3/4" piece of Shimmery White Cardstock with Early Espresso Classic Stampin' Pad.  I then stamped the circles as leaves for the tree from the same stamp set with Pool Party Classic Stampin' Pad.  I colored 3 Rhinestone Basic Jewels with Dark Pool Party Stampin' Blends.  I stamped the "Hugs Prayers Love" sentiment from the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set and then cut with a Stitched Nested label.  I cut a piece of Pool Party 3/8" Sheer Ribbon and folded it twice.  I then adhered the ribbon to the card by adhering the sentiment with Stampin' Dimensionals.  I attached this to a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Pool Party Cardstock.  This then was adhered to a Shimmer White 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card front.

Please leave comments on which is your favorite and what inspires you when it comes to design your artwork during difficult circumstances.  Inspiration comes from everywhere - for me it was nature.  My cousin was an arborist, so I was drawn to trees.  Stampin' Up! has some beautiful tree stamps and dies which made this much easier.
