Witches and Spiders

by Bonnie Hershfeldt, August 30, 2020
I missed posting last weekend as we settled back at home after Tom's surgery.  Tom is doing so much better!  We went to see his doctor Friday for his first follow up.  Dr. Walker is so pleased with how well he is doing.  He has been taking long walks - up to 2 miles on Friday. He is eating solid foods - low fiber - no salads or fresh veggies. Too bad for him.  I have tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers needing picked everyday.  Yesterday, I made 4 quarts and 5 pints of refrigerator pickles, 6 pints of salsa and one pint of jalapenos.  Whew - I was tired after that event!

Tomorrow is the last day of August - WHAT?  Last reminder if you have $5 Bonus Reward coupons you must use them up by Tomorrow!  Summer flew by so fast!  Do you have plans for the labor day weekend?  We made plan to go glamping with Tom's friends - looks like it's going to be really hot on Saturday.  I am so looking towards fall!  I worked on a fall project last weekend to share with you this week.  I just love the Magic in This Night Suite - the designer series paper is perfect for Halloween projects.  The floral papers are beautiful - especially the black and white ones!  Coordinate that with the Black Glitter Paper and oh my. The Metallic Mesh ribbon is amazing.  I love that it is a wide ribbon - 1 1/2" wide. Lastly, the Iridescent Pearls are gorgeous!  They add just that perfect special embellishment!

This week's project is a slim line card.  It's such a popular card design right now - so thought I would play with that for this project.  I used the Ghoulish Goodies Stamp set for the images on the card.  I also used dies from the Autumn Greetings for the pumpkin and Peek a hoot dies for the spider web.  I participated in a card class Friday night that used the Have a Hoot Bundle which includes the Peek a Hoot dies.  The owls are so adorable!  I can't wait to play more with them.

Instructions for this card are as follows:

Blackberry Cardstock
  • Cut at 7" x 8 1/2".  Score the 7" side in half at 3 1/2".
Floral DSP
  • Cut at 3 1/4 " x 8 1/4".  Adhere to the card front.
Black Glitter Paper
  • Cut at 2 1/2" x 6 3/4".  Adhere to the Floral DSP.
  • Cut 2 - 1 3/4" x 1 3/4".  Run one through Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine (available to order on 9/1) with spider web die, from the Peek a Hoot Die set, facing up and one with the larger pumpkin stripes from the Autumn's Essentials Die set.  Place the Black Glitter Paper facing down towards the die.  Run through the machine a couple of times as the glitter paper is thicker than regular card stock.
Silver Metallic Mesh Ribbon
  • Cut at 7 3/4".  Adhere with Glue Dots 2" from either end in the middle of the ribbon and one more in the center of the ribbon.
Coordinating DSP (I used the Orange/Black small floral DSP)
  • Cut 3 - 2" x 2" squares.  Adhere spacing equal distance on the Black Glitter paper.  You may want to use Stampin' Seal plus or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to stick better to the glitter paper.
Basic Black Cardstock
  • Cut 3 - 1 3/4"x 1 3/4" squares.  Set aside.
Whisper White Cardstock
  • Cut 3 - 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" squares.  Stamp the witch, the spider and the word "eek" and the sentiment "The Most Spooktacular Time of the Year" with Tuxedo Black Memento ink pad.  Adhere each onto a Basic Black 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" cardstock squares.  Adhere this unit with Stampin' Dimensionals to each of the Orange/Black floral squares.  I placed the witch on top, the sentiment in the middle and the spider at the end.
  • Cut 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" for card inside.  With Tuxedo Black Memento ink pad, stamp Bat duo at the top, the sentiment "There is Magic in This Night" below the bats, and then "Happy Halloween" below that.  I centered this last sentiment in the middle of the card inside.
Cajun Craze Cardstock
  • Cut 2 x 2" square.  Run through Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine (available to order on 9/1) with large solid pumpkin die from the Autumn's Greetings Die set.  Adhere the Black Glitter pumpkin stripe onto the solid pumpkin with fine tip glue pen.
Adhere the Black Glitter spider web to the top left of the card with Mini Glue Dots.   Adhere the pumpkin to the lower right of the card with a Stampin' Dimensional.

Adhere an Iridescent Pearl to the center of the spider web.  I placed 3 additional pearls to each of the stamped images.

I found black envelopes to fit these long and narrow cards.  To address them, you will need a white gel pen or create address labels.

I made two alternatives with other dsp's from the suite and coordinating colors - which one do you like best?  Which one would you make?

I don't want to rush Summer out the door, however, I just love, love, love Fall.  I can't wait for September's Paper Pumpkin kit as the coordinating colors for the supplies provided are all favorites for Fall:  Bumblebee, Basic Black, Cajun Craze, Cinnamon Cider, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, and Whisper White.  What a way to get into the Fall groove!

One more week from this coming Thursday (September 10) to order your September Paper Pumpkin.  I can't wait to check out the fall themed cracker box treat packages!  I've picked up some candies from Costco to prepared them so I'll be organized for Halloween.   Please feel free to contact me and I can help you order your September Paper Pumpkin kit!

On September 1st, the new Stampin' Die and Emboss machine will be available for you to order.  It has quickly become by very favorite portable die machine.  My most favorite feature - the base closes for traveling.  The pressure is perfect - it cuts like butter!  I love that the plates are numbered - this makes making the die cutting or embossing folder sandwiches so easy to remember!  Extra plates will be available to reorder on 9/1 as well.  There is a magnetic plate that I've been waiting on.  I like to use magnetic plates best to hold dies in place.  If you would like more details, I would love to chat with you about this amazing die machine!

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable long weekend celebrating Labor day with your friends and families!  Enjoy these last few days of summer before the leaves begin to fall.  Glamping here we come!  I'm hoping that the fires will die down soon.   Take Care!
