Cocktails Kind of Day

by Bonnie Hershfeldt, August 16, 2020

How do we do it?  How do we gather our strength and carry on?  I've always liked the quote:  "Keep Calm and Carry On".  And that was definitely my mantra this last week.  My mom fractured her left leg's fibula - the outer lower leg bone that connects to the ankle joint.  After a visit Monday to Urgent care and leaving with an ill fitting boot and no answers, we visited an Orthopedic specialist on Wednesday who confirmed it was fractured.  However, it won't require surgery to mend - a huge relief to all of us.  She will be in her new much better fitting boot for 6 weeks.  She is moving around really well.  She is working on how to get her boot off and on independently so we can get her back to her apartment.

I had a card ready to share last week, but with all of the excitement, I just couldn't find a moment to share with you.   This card was made just for my week.  This stamp set is made for those that need a little extra encouragement to get through a challenging event in their lives with some humor!

This week's card is a fast and easy fun fold card - perfect for showcasing your favorite images to pop up.  I added a sentiment on the backside of the middle portion of the fun fold.  It's a hidden surprise when the card is folded up.  Here are 4 different versions that came together thinking of some of my favorite drinks:  Blue Hawaiian, Margarita, Pina Colada, Strawberry Daiquiri.

I used the Cocktails stamp and die and had fun "mixing" some colorful cocktails.  The drinks, fruit slices and umbrellas are so fun to stamp with bright coordinating colors.  I stamped off sometimes to soften the drink and umbrella colors.  I used the Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper to coordinate perfectly with the Melon Mambo, Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay, and Flirty Flamingo card stock I used for my card bases.  The Artistry Blooms Adhesive-Backed Sequins are the perfect finishing touch to add just that little bit of sparkle.  I die cut the word Cocktails 3 times with Basic Black Cardstock and stacked on top of each other with Multipurpose Glue to give it just a little added dimension.  Lastly, I added the sentiment on the backside of the center panel - I had to use the "Because Adulting is Hard."  That says it all - doesn't it!

Instructions for the Granny Apple Green card base are as follows:

Granny Apple Green Cardstock

  • Cut cardstock 5 1/2" x 8 1/2".  Score at 2 1/8", 3 1/8", 5 1/8" and 6 1/8".  Fold the 2 1/8" and 6 1/8" score lines toward the front of the card base.  Fold the 3 1/8" and 5 1/8" score lines towards the outer edges.

Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper (DSP)

  • Cut 2 pieces of matching Green to Yellow ombre print at 2" x 5 3/8".  Adhere one print to the left front flap and the other (print going in the same direction) to the right front flap.
Daffodil Delight Cardstock
  • Cut 3" x 3/4" strip.  Stamp "Kind of day." centered in the middle with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad.  Adhere with Stampin' Seal about 1/4" from the bottom of the center front panel.
  • Cut 3" x 1 1/4" strip.  Stamp "Today is a" centered close to the top with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad.  Adhere with Stampin' Seal about 1 3/4" from the top of the center front panel.
Basic Black Cardstock
  • Die cut "COCKTAILS" 3 times.  Adhere one on top of the either with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  Adhere with Multipurpose Liquid Glue directly under the "Today is a" on the Daffodil Delight strip.
Whisper White Cardstock
  • Stamp two of the Cocktail with fruit/umbrella stamp on a scrap.  With Granny Apple Green Ink Pad, stamp off once with the inside of the drink (the one with ice cubes) and then stamp on the inside of one cocktail - a Margarita!  With Bermuda Bay Ink Pad, stamp inside of drink on the inside of the other Cocktail - a Blue Hawaiian.
  • With Granny Apple Green Ink Pad, and the small lime shaped stamp, stamp the lime on the side of both Cocktails.
  • With Melon Mambo Ink pad and the small umbrella shaped stamp, stamp off once and then stamp the umbrella on the Blue Hawaiian.  With Bumblebee Ink Pad and the small umbrella shaped stamp, stamp off once and then stamp the umbrella on the Margarita.
  • Cut the two cocktails with the Cocktail Die.  Adhere the Blue Hawaiian cocktail on the center panel left top slightly angled.  Adhere the Margarita to the center panel on the lower right corner slightly angled.
  • Cut 2" x 5 3/8" strip.  Stamp "Because Adulting is Hard".  Adhere this to the center back panel.
Artistry Blooms Adhesive-backed Sequin
  • Adhere a sequin in place of the dot of the 'i' in the Basic Black dimensional "COCKTAILS".

The combinations with this stamp set are endless.  Remember that you save 10%  when you purchase the stamp set and the die set bundle.  I don't mind fussy cutting, but the dies make it so much easier and quicker.  The Cookie - everyone needs a cookie.  I made my mom some Friday afternoon to lift her spirits.  The Chocolate - I can just see some cute little boxes with special chocolates for someone that needs a little surprise.  And Coffee - coffee makes everything better!  Lastly, there are so many combinations of sentiments to go along with the card fronts.  So many that they could keep me busy for days.  Which would you choose; Cookie, Cocktails, Chocolate or Coffee?  What sentiments would you put together?  I would love to hear what combinations you come up with!

Nothings Better Than Bundle

Another challenging week ahead - I will definitely need a little of all of these!  My husband has his surgery on Thursday.  I am hoping to have some quiet time while he is resting to play with this set some more.  I think I will spend some time Wednesday evening by stamping and die cutting.  The dimensional words are perfect to work on while watching television!

I'm anxiously waiting for my August Paper Pumpkin to arrive.  This is another way to quickly pass time productively.  Next month's kit will be a Fall themed kit.  Fall is my favorite season so I can't wait to see what's in that Paper Pumpkin box!

Sign Up for Paper Pumpkin

The Paper Pumpkin box in Orange and Black is enough for me - lol!  But it's what is inside that will be so fun for Fall.  There will be enough supplies to make 20 cracker box treat packages!  You can make these to hold treats for those special kiddies for Halloween.  Perhaps, a special place setting gift for your Thanksgiving holiday dinner.  Or something fun for a Fall festival.  The coordinating colors for the supplies provided are all favorites for Fall:  Bumblebee, Basic Black, Cajun Craze, Cinnamon Cider, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, and Whisper White.  You have until September 10 to sign up for your very own Orange and Black Paper Pumpkin box!  Please let me know if you need help in ordering your September Paper Pumpkin kit.

Here's to another week of:  "Keep Calm and Carry on" or "Today is a COCKTAIL kind of day."  Because Adulting is Hard".  Take care and enjoy your week!
